It’s World Doula Week!

This was from last Spring- my amazing friend, Joylily Young, graciously snapped a few headshots for me! I’ve been able to use these beautiful pictures for so many things.

 Happy World Doula Week, everyone!

I didn’t realize it was world doula week until Saturday afternoon 😅 #hotmessexpress

I’ve also been woefully quiet about it on socials. Honestly, I started feeling like a big failure as a doula! I have no clever reels, no cool posts about World Doula Week, no fancy statistics to share with you about why doulas are so important…but those things are not what doula work is about.

My week has been filled with snuggling my kids, stepping into the gap and serving the friends in my personal village and honoring my body with much needed rest.

The work of a doula is done by loving those closest to them. By cultivating and growing their village. By seeing the individual people around them and loving them in the way they need.

For me, the lifestyle of doula work has helped me slow my life, giving honor to the ebb and flow of seasons and taking the time to languidly enjoy my life. Those times of slowness and rest or punctuated by the flurry of birth and babies, breastfeeding questions and tearful phone calls when mom needs that much needed support.

All that to say that being a doula may appear to be a sacrificial career, one that’s full of bending my schedule to others and constantly meeting the needs of others. And there so someone that. But beyond that, the joy I receive from being a part of peoples lives at such a sweet, intimate time and the things this lifestyle have taught me about what I want out of life have been one of the greatest gifts I’ve ever received.

To everyone who has supported me, encouraged me, hired me, given me advice, to the people who take the time to read this blog- thank you. Thank you so much for helping me on this journey. I cannot wait to see where it takes me.
